In This Corner of the World

Based on Fumiyo Kono's homonymous manga, it tells the story of a young woman named Suzu Uranus from her earliest childhood to her maturity during World War II. The girl at the age of 18 agrees with Sh?saku Hôjô, a young man who she met him one day in her city, Hiroshima. The young lady moves to live with her husband and his political family in Kure, a coastal city that is located in the prefecture of Hiroshima. Shûsaku works as a naval officer, which will make the young Suzu stay at home alone with her mother-in-law, her sister-in-law and her niece when the war takes place. It is the story of these women who had to carry a house in the middle of the war, of those women who did their best to keep their children from starving, those women who struggled in time. Directed by Sunao Katabuchi and written by Katabuchi and Chie Uratani, the film participated in the Animaficx section of the 54th Gijón International Film Festival.
