Alcalá does not reach the level of other examples but captures very well at the beginning of the film the jovial, casual and almost adolescent tone that governs Simone's clandestine relationship with Étienne. The filmmaker has the support of magnificent actors.

Although it falls many times in the worst vice of the french comedies, wanting to be bittersweet and staying in anemic, 'Just the Three of Us' is making itself lovely as long as its main characters learn how to accept maturity by returning to the childishness and the quarrels of their adolescence.

It is such an achievement that the film tells us at the same time the two stories, the one of the woman emancipating and the other one of the grumpy man who ends up reconciling himself with this damn life.
