Plot
'Love Field' is a dramatic American film directed by Jonathan Kaplan with a screenplay by Don Roos. It stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Dennis Haysbert and premiered in the United States on December 11, 1992. Although Michelle Pfeiffer received several nominations for her work in the film, including an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, the film was widely panned by critics and particularly attacked for its racist undertones. Ultimately, it barely managed to gross 2 million dollars, far below its budget.
The story centers on the character of Lurene Hallett, a housewife from Dallas who is obsessed with First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, claiming to have a special connection with her. She attends the presidential parade shortly before the assassination of John F. Kennedy. On her way home, she becomes convinced of attending the President's funeral, despite her husband Ray forbidding her to go. So Lurene decides to leave on her own and travel to Washington D.C. by bus.
During the journey, she befriends little Jonell, the daughter of another passenger on the bus. On the way to Washington, the bus has an accident and all passengers must get off. Lurene accompanies Jonell to the bathroom and discovers injuries on the little girl, who also claims that the man accompanying her is not her father. Worried, Lurene decides to alert the FBI about a kidnapping, unaware that she is opening a Pandora's box of unpredictable consequences.
'Love Field' was filmed in North Carolina and, despite its good intentions, was accused of racism by the Black community, especially regarding the treatment of Paul's character.
