Love Sonia

A poor family are riddled with debt, living on a farm in a drought-prone region in India. The father is struggling to pay rent and to maintain his family, but his two teenage daughters, Sonia and Preeti, remain positive and happy despite their dire circumstances. The father decides to sell his oldest daughter, Preeti, to a local landlord in order to pay off some of his personal debt, and Sonia becomes determined to rescue her sister. Young and naive, she believes that Preeti has been sent to the city in order to find employment, while in reality she has been sold to the black market of sex slavery. Sonia goes off in search of Preeti, offering herself to the landlord instead, but she also ends up swept into the dark underground world of sex trafficking in an illegal brothel in Mumbai.

The film was inspired by the director's own encounter with the the world of sex trafficking and his horrific realisation of the graveness of the problem.
