Plot
'Mantis' is a South Korean action thriller co-written and directed by Lee Tae-sung. It is a production by See At Film for the streaming platform Netflix, which will release the film worldwide on September 26, 2025. It is a spin-off set in the same universe as 'Kill Boksoon', a 2023 film also for Netflix, although with a different director.
It focuses on the figure of Mantis, an elite assassin who was at the pinnacle of the industry. When he returns with a new contract after a vacation, he discovers that the world of hitmen is plunged into chaos.
During his reintegration, Mantis reunites with old professional colleagues: Jae-yi, a former rival and partner, and Dok-go, a renowned assassin who is now retired. In reality, they are all competing to see who is the best hitman in the absence of Mantis.
The actor Yim Si-wan is the protagonist, playing Mantis. The main cast also includes Park Gyu-young as Jae-yi and Jo Woo-jin as Dok-go. Choi Hyun-wook and Sul Kyung-gu also participate. The reviews for the film after its release are generally positive, although they note that, for being a continuation of 'Kill Boksoon', its tone is much lighter and less profound. The film was shot at the end of 2024 in Seoul.
