Plot
Directed by German filmmaker Christian Schwochow ('Paula', 'The German Lesson'). A UK-German co-production iwritten by Ben Power, who adapts the novel 'Munich', written by Robert Harris. Set in the fall of 1938, the film tells how Europe finds itself on the brink of World War II. Adolf Hitler (Ulrich Matthes) is ready to invade the former Czechoslovakia. To avoid declaring war, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain (Jeremy Irons) travels to Munich along with Hugh Legat (George McKay), a young British civil servant, for an emergency conference for a peaceful solution.
In Munich, Chamberlain and Legat meet the German diplomat Paul von Hartmann (Jannis Niehwöhner), a member of the opposition resistance to Hitler. Hartmann is a Legat's old classmate, from when he studied at Oxford. Both seek to see the possibility of avoiding a war and to see at what cost. A reunion that coincides with the future of Europe in suspense. Inadvertently, two old friends find themselves embroiled in a political plot in which their lives are at risk. And here the question arises, when the stake is so high: who betrays whom? Is it necessary to conspire against one's friends, against one's family, or does it have to turn one's back on a country or on one's conscience?
Starring Jeremy Irons, George MacKay, Jannis Niehwöhner, Alex Jennings, Martin Wuttke, Ulrich Matthes, August Diehl, Robert Bathurst, Marc Limpach, Martin Kiefer and Sandra Hüller.
