Synopsis

"Truly, the portrait of an artist," TNT's Kevin Harlan told viewers on 13 March 2025, the night Stephen Curry became the first player in NBA history to make 4,000 threes. Gotham Chopra had more than 20 IMAX cameras around Chase Center for that game against the Sacramento Kings, and Harlan handed him a title.

'Portrait of an Artist: Stephen Curry' is built around that one day and that one game, which Curry played with a sore back. Chopra mixes it with home videos of a young Steph and the player's own voice on injuries, doubt and the grind of training and repeating, over and over. Around him, people from other creative worlds talk about their craft: Viola Davis, Jon Batiste, Rick Rubin and Patti Smith, along with Warriors coach Steve Kerr.

The argument is that what Curry does on court is an art form, and that artists aren't born but made, through passion and stubborn repetition. It's a different angle from Peter Nick's 2023 documentary 'Stephen Curry: Underrated'. Some critics found that thesis more inspiring than probing, and the average across the five outlets collected on Movienco is 6.5 out of 10.

Produced by Chopra's Religion of Sports with ESPN Films, IMAX Documentaries and Curry's own company, Unanimous Media, in association with the NBA, it runs about 70 minutes and opened exclusively in IMAX cinemas on 9 October 2026, distributed by Disney.
