Reality

'Reality' is an American criminal drama directed by Tina Satter, which is also her directorial debut. The script is written by Satter herself with James Paul Dallas. The film stars Sydney Sweeney and is based on real events, which were also adapted beforehand in her theater play "Is This a Room".

The action is set on June the 3rd, 2017, when two FBI Agents, Taylor and Garrick, confront Reality Winner at her house with a court search order. While the two agents start registering Winner's apartment, she starts talking casually with them, with all the conversation being recorded and used in the dialogs of the film.

Winner is first asked about her job, and she answers she is a yoga and CrossFit instructor, as well as a farsi translator for a government contractor company, and she hopes to be sent to Afghanistan to help in the country.

Bit by bit, the agents start to unveil the real reason of their interest for Winner: they suspect she has leaked classified documents to the media. Although she denies it at first, she finally confesses being the responsible of the leak. The documents they are referring to contain information about the Russian interference in the 2016 US Election, won by Donald Trump. She is sentenced to four years in prison, even if her documents end up being used in the Senate to prove Russian actions.

'Reality' premiered in the Berlin International Film Festival in 2023 as a critical success and praises to Sweeney's work. HBO bought the rights for the US, meanwhile several other companies did it for the rest of the world.
