Plot
The second film of the American director Riley Stearns places the story today. This story tell us about the situation of Casey, played by Jesse Eisenberg, a lonely and shy young man who one night is attacked by a group of motorists who rob him and send him to the hospital due to the aggression suffered that night.
This fact causes the protagonist to decide to leave behind his fears and take a step forward to, in this case, train in self-defense so that this doesn't happen again. In fact, more specifically he starts going to a karate class.
The teacher will be none other than Sensei, played by Alessandro Nivola, a charismatic and mysterious karateka who will help him overcome his fears and learn to defend through introspective as extravagant methods.
In a mixture between black humor and the absurd, this movie immediately shows how the professor does not agree with the violence as it is presupposed for his role and, in the end, Casey will embark on a journey of knowledge to himself and what his new lessons are meaning to him.
Sensei will end up teaching him much more than he had initially thought, violence being the last resort of his classes.
The cast is completed by norteamericano actors such as Imogen Poots, Steve Terada and David Zellner.

Professional Details
In the photograph of the master in the dojo you can see, behind the master, a picture of Morihei Ueshiba Osensei the founder of the martial art of aikido. This implies that the master trained as an aikidoka. Aikido, loosely translated, means 'The Way of Spiritual Harmony'. This is puzzling since aikido is a grappling art more akin to judo than to the striking art, karate.
Change of plans
This was to be a comedy remake of the 'Karate kid'.
