Based on the eponymous book by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows, 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society' tells the story of author Juliet Ashton as she visits Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands after receiving an invite from one of her fans. Once there, she encounters the residents who are still recovering from World War II. Ashton then decides to base her next book on the experiences of those residents during the war.
'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society' refers to the name of the book club the locals formed during the War, the very same about which Ashton wishes to base her upcoming story.
The character of Juliet Ashton is played by Lily James and the film is directed by Mike Newell.
