The Ice Tower

'The Ice Tower' is a French fantasy drama directed by Lucile Hadzihalilovic, who also co-writes the script with Geoff Cox. The film premieres at the Berlinale in February 2025, where it wins a Silver Bear for Best Artistic Contribution. It also travels to San Sebastián and other festivals, receiving great reviews before its theatrical release in France on September 17, 2025.

Set in the 1970s, Jeanne, a 15-year-old orphan, escapes from a remote mountain to take refuge in what she believes is a shed. It is, in fact, the filming set for the adaptation of "The Snow Queen" by Hans Christian Andersen.

There she meets Cristina, an enigmatic actress tasked with playing this queen, whose aura ultimately captivates Jeanne. Hired as an extra in the film, the relationship between Jeanne and Cristina deepens until it begins to blur the line between reality and their fictional characters. A fairy tale about power, identity, and vulnerability.

'The Ice Tower' stars Marion Cotillard as Cristina, alongside young actress Clara Pacini in the role of Jeanne. The cast also includes August Diehl, Gaspar Noé, Marine Gesbert, and Lilas-Rose Gilberti among others. The film was primarily shot in Paris, with outdoor scenes filmed in the French region of Yvelines and the mountainous city of Bolzano. Received with great acclaim, the film has earned several awards for its director.
