Plot
USA, 50s. After losing his mother, a young man will meet a doctor specialized in lobotomies. He will start working for the doctor, gathering data on his cases in an era when the methods used by the doctor are not well received. The young man will start relating to the patients.

The aspect ratio used in the film is close to 1:1. According to Lorenzo Hagerman, cinematographer of the film, this is not just a beautiful canvas to work with, but also helped fitting the actors in the scene. Jeff Goldblum is 1,94 meters tall, while Tye Sheridan is 1,71.

Rick Alverson, director of the film, explained that the sudden cuts in the most dramatic scenes by saying that normally the public gets what they want, and that he wanted to play with that.
