Plot

When one of her students is suspected of theft, math and sports teacher starting her first job at a high school, Carla Nowak, decides to get to the bottom of the matter. Caught between her ideals and the school system, the consequences of her actions threaten to break her. The young woman tries to mediate between outraged parents, stubborn colleagues and aggressive students.

'The Teachers' Lounge' (German: 'Das Lehrerzimmer') is a 2023 German drama film directed by lker Çatak, who co-wrote the script with Johannes Duncker. In 2017, Çatak released his first feature film, 'Once Upon a Time... Indianerland', in German cinemas, followed in 2019 by 'I Was, I Am, I Will Be', which earned him nominations at the Film Awards. Alemán 2020 in the categories of best director and best script.

It was selected as the German candidate for best international film at the 2024 Oscars.

Among its cast we find Léonie Benesch as Carla Nowak, Michael Klammer as Thomas Liebenwerda, Rafael Stachowiak as Milosz Dudek, Anne-Kathrin Gummich as Dr. Bettina Böhm and Eva Löbau as Friederike Kuhn. The protagonist of the film is a German actress who has participated in 'Babylon Berlin' and 'The Crown', in which she played the role of the older sister of Prince Philip of Edinburgh, Cecilia of Greece and Denmark. In 2019 she also appears as the writer Elisabeth Hauptmann, in her youth, in the two-part docudrama biographical film Brecht by Heinrich Breloer.
