The Ties That Bind Us

Sandra, an independent bookseller and used to chosen solitude, leads a quiet life without major upheavals until tragedy bursts into the neighboring apartment. Her neighbor Alex, a young architect, has just lost his partner at the very moment he welcomes his second daughter into the world. Suddenly, this man is left alone to care for a newborn baby and for Elliott, a six-year-old boy whose lucidity confuses and moves Sandra. What initially seems like a circumstantial relationship, marked by the proximity of the apartments and the chance of sharing a landing, soon becomes an unexpected bond that profoundly alters the routines and certainties of the protagonist. Unintentionally, Sandra begins to care for, accompany, and allow herself to be transformed by the affection of these two little ones and by Alex's resilience, who is trying to rebuild his life after the loss. The arrival of Emilia, a new figure seeking to find a place in the family, further expands the portrait of reconfigured bonds, of family models that do not conform to traditional molds. Amidst silences, doors that open and close, seasons marking the passage of time, and everyday gestures that acquire immense emotional weight, the film explores how love, loss, and companionship can chart unexpected paths.
