Plot

Peter Hyams directs this action and science fiction film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme who plays Max Walker, a time-traveling police officer whose mission is to prevent the alteration of events that could change the present and future of The story as we know it.

In addition to his routine work, the situation gets even worse when his wife Melissa (Mia Sara) dies after being attacked by criminals of the future.

After this event, Walker is sent to investigate a series of crimes committed during the American Civil War and also at the time of the New York Stock Exchange Crack. During this investigation, the policeman discovers that Senator Aaron McComb (Ron Silver) uses these time travels to finance himself financially and thus be able to participate in the next campaign to join the race for the presidency of the United States of America.

Upon learning that Max Walker is investigating him, he orders his murder, a decision that will lead to the death of the officer's wife with whom all this had begun.

In this story that mixes the need of revenge with love and justice, Jean-Claude Van Damme plays one of the most flattered roles in his career and shares the big screen with other Hollywood stars such as Bruce McGill, Gloria Reuben or Kenneth Welsh.

Trivia

The illusion of the stunt doubles

In the fight scenes in the last act of the film, Jean-Claude Van Damme's stunt double was used to create the illusion of the younger Max Walker. This was also done for Ron Silver's character of Senator McComb.

Assured success

Second Van Damme movie (solo hero) to cross 100 million dollars worldwide.

Fictitious stage

In the 90s, special effects and blue screens were already used quite regularly, which is why in the scenes where actors Jean-Claude Van Damme and Ron Silver are in their cars behind the blue screen. The White House and the sets of Washington were added later in postproduction.
