About the The X Files saga
'The X-Files' began on television: Chris Carter launched it in 1993 and for nine seasons followed two FBI agents assigned to unexplained cases, believer Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and sceptic Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson). UFOs, government conspiracies and monsters of the week made it one of the cult series of the nineties.
At the height of its success it moved to cinemas with 'The X-Files' (1998), directed by Rob Bowman, which was released between the fifth and sixth seasons and tied into the show's great alien conspiracy. Its motto, "The truth is out there", was already part of popular culture.
Six years after the series ended, Carter himself directed 'The X-Files: I Want to Believe' (2008), a standalone story without aliens. Mulder and Scully returned to television for two more seasons, in 2016 and 2018.
