To shoot the scenes with her "clones", Tatiana Maslany would act alongside acting doubles, and then repeat the scene with other doubles. These "layers" would be edited together. Director John Fawcett described it as a a "very time consuming process".

Tatiana Maslany and writer Graeme Manson would collaborate and agree on a back story for each of the clones, including their parentage and upbringing.
