Shameless (US)

'Shameless' is an American drama and comedy TV series based on the successful British series of the same name created by Paul Abbott.

The American adaptation was developed by John Wells, who also served as executive producer alongside Nancy M. Pimental and Andrew Stearn. It aired on Showtime from 2011 to 2021 and had eleven seasons.

The plot centers on the chaotic life of the Gallagher family, who live in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Chicago. Frank (William H. Macy) is a single father who does not act as a father figure at all. He is the complete opposite of the ideal father anyone would want: he is disastrous, irresponsible, and always willing to prioritize his vices with alcohol over any family responsibility. 

That is why Fiona (Emmy Rossum), Frank's eldest daughter, has taken on the role of mother and is responsible for caring for, educating, and watching over her five smart, independent, and wild siblings (Ethan Cutkosky, Jeremy Allen White, Emma Kenney, Cameron Monaghan, and Brenden Sims).

All of them are pushed to grow up too soon in the face of the difficult situation.

Throughout its seasons, 'Shameless' unapologetically explores the consequences of alcoholism, poverty, and social inequality, also addressing work, romantic, family, and identity conflicts. Its ability to mix drama and dark comedy was one of the reasons for its great success.

The cast was completed with key characters such as Veronica Fisher (Shanola Hampton), Kevin Ball (Steve Howey), Sheila Jackson (Joan Cusack), Mickey Milkovich (Noel Fisher), and Svetlana (Isidora Goreshter).

Shameless had a notable critical and cultural impact for its raw and honest portrayal of the American lower class. Additionally, William H. Macy's performance was particularly recognized, for which he received multiple nominations for the Emmy Awards and the Golden Globes.
