The Romanoffs

Matthew Weiner, the creator of 'Mad Men', arrives on Amazon Prime Video with 'The Romanoffs', a contemporary anthology made up of eight episodes where he also takes care of the script and direction. The fiction is produced by Amazon Studios, Weiner Bros., Semi-Formal Productions, and Slattery’s Rules.

It has a single season composed of eight self-contained episodes, premiered in 2018, in which each chapter presents an independent story set in different parts of the world.

All of them revolve around people or families who believe they are descendants of the Romanovs, the Russian imperial dynasty, using this premise as a common thread to explore themes such as identity, family legacy, guilt, privilege, or the need for belonging.

Featuring a cast led by well-known faces such as Isabelle Huppert, Marthe Keller, Aaron Eckhart, Diane Lane, Christina Hendricks, John Slattery, Corey Stoll, and Hugh Skinner (among others).

The viewer delves into the daily life of a couple formed by a director and a movie star, the temptations that threaten an emotionally stagnant couple, or the escape of a man who believes he is marked by a family curse, among other intimate and psychological stories.

Although its media impact was more discreet than that of other productions on the platform, ‘The Romanoffs’ was praised by critics for its narrative ambition, its careful staging, and the depth of its characters.
