The Vampire Diaries

'Crónicas vampíricas' ('The Vampire Diaries') is a TV series based on the novels by L. J. Smith and produced by Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson for The CW Network.

The series revolves around Elena Gilbert, a young woman who has to start a new life after her parents died in a car accident. Elena and her brother Jeremy will move to Mystic Falls to live with their aunt Jenna, and little by little they will try to recover their lives. 

Elena finds support in her close friends Bonnie and Caroline, as well as in Matt and Tyler. But what Elena doesn't know is that her life is about to take an unexpected turn. At the beginning of the school year, she will meet the brothers Damon and Stefan Salvatore.

Both are filled with secrets: Stefan and Damon are vampires and are tied to a dark past. No one in the town knows this key information about their lives, while they try to fight against their own demons and immortality.

Soon, the brothers will try to win the heart of the human Elena, who will eventually discover the truth about the Salvatore family, the origins of Mystic Falls, and secrets about her own family. From there, she will find herself caught up in a web of conflicts, betrayals, and alliances that she never could have imagined.

The series aired from 2009 to 2017 and has a total of eight seasons. Its narrative universe was completed with numerous magical creatures such as  witches, werewolves, hybrids, and ancient vampire families. Additionally, thanks to the success it accumulated, it expanded its television franchise with spin-offs like 'The Originals' and 'Legacies'.

The cast is led by Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert), Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore), and Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore). Alongside them, actors like  Kat Graham (Bonnie Bennett), Candice King (Caroline Forbes), and Zach Roerig (Matt Donovan) helped shape one of the most influential series in the contemporary vampire genre.
