Biography

Alfie Allen has been forgiven for two of the most hated acts in recent pop culture: betraying the Starks and killing John Wick's dog. Born in Hammersmith, London, on 12 September 1986, he grew up inside the business as the son of actor Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen, with the singer Lily Allen for an older sister.

Before any of that, he was a song. 'Alfie', the closing track on Lily's debut album 'Alright, Still', painted him as a workshy teenager glued to the sofa. His answer came in 2008, when at 21 he took over from Daniel Radcliffe in the UK tour of 'Equus', full frontal nudity included. The message landed: he meant it.

He'd been around sets for years by then, debuting as a child in 'Elizabeth' (1998), which his mother produced, before small parts in 'Atonement', with Keira Knightley and James McAvoy, 'The Other Boleyn Girl' alongside Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson, and the Brian Jones biopic 'Stoned'.

Eight seasons as Theon Greyjoy

'Game of Thrones' made him a household face. Across all eight seasons, from 2011 to 2019, his Theon Greyjoy went from cocky ward of Winterfell to traitor, then to Ramsay Bolton's broken creature Reek, and finally to redemption against the army of the dead. A hostage raised between two families who never fully belonged to either, Theon gave Allen one of the richest arcs in the show, and it brought him a 2019 Emmy nomination for best supporting actor in a drama, his only one to date.

The man who killed John Wick's dog

Between seasons he became 2014's most despised screen villain: Iosef Tarasov, the Russian brat who steals Keanu Reeves's Mustang and kills his puppy in 'John Wick', lighting the fuse on a franchise that has since taken over a billion dollars.

He followed it with 'The Predator' (2018), the Nazi sidekick Finkel in Taika Waititi's Oscar winning satire 'Jojo Rabbit', and Georgian London villainy as Isaac Pincher in series three of 'Harlots'. In 2022 he went to war as Lieutenant Jock Lewes in 'SAS: Rogue Heroes', Steven Knight's BBC drama about the birth of the special forces, alongside Connor Swindells.

A Tony nod, Stephen King and a sinister teacher

The stage paid off again that year with a Broadway debut in Martin McDonagh's black comedy 'Hangmen', playing Mooney, the unnerving stranger at the centre of the play, which earned him a Tony nomination for best featured actor. In January 2026 he was back on villain duty as Rick Hansen, the teacher who abducts a pupil in Paramount+'s thriller 'Girl Taken', and he's joined season two of 'The Institute', the Stephen King adaptation, as Nolan Reeves.

He has a daughter, born in 2018 from his relationship with artist Allie Teilz, and keeps his private life firmly out of view. As for the song that introduced him to the world, time has turned it into a family joke: the boy on the sofa ended up doing rather a lot with his life.
