Born on October 5, 1957 in Hurstpierpoint, England, Gwynne began her career as an actress more than forty years ago but did not make the leap to television until the late 1980s, with a brief role in the drama 'Nice Work'. She became known for her participation in British series such as 'Peak Practice', 'Merseybeat' and the BBC series 'Rome' where she acted as Calpurnia, Julius Caesar's wife. Instead, it was her role as journalist Alex Pates in the comedy 'Drop the Dead Donkey' that earned her a BAFTA nomination.
She stood out for starring as important and royal characters, such as Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and wife of King Charles, in the British comedy 'The Windsors' or her role as Susan Hussey, duchess and lady of honor of Queen Elizabeth II in the fifth season of the series 'The crown' in 2022.
