Kylie Jenner

In 2017 Kylie Jenner tried to register the name "Kylie" as a trademark in the United States. Kylie Minogue objected, pointing out that she had been using it professionally since before Jenner was born, and won. It is a small story, but it says something about the scale of the argument over who she actually is: a reality television fixture, a cosmetics magnate, or simply a very famous person.

Kylie Kristen Jenner was born in Los Angeles on 10 August 1997. Her parents are Caitlyn Jenner, who won the Olympic decathlon at Montreal in 1976, and Kris Jenner, who manages the careers of the whole family. She has one full sister, Kendall, and four older half siblings on her mother's side, Kim Kardashian among them.

She was nine when the family began filming 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' for E! in 2007. It ran for fourteen years and 193 episodes, so most of her childhood and all of her teens exist on tape. She went to Sierra Canyon School, where she was a cheerleader, switched to home schooling in 2012 and finished at a distance learning school in Ojai in 2015.

A very short filmography

Film is somewhere she visits rather than works. In 2018 she played herself in a cameo in 'Ocean's 8', the Met Gala heist with Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and Rihanna.

The same year she turned up in 'Generation Wealth', Lauren Greenfield's documentary about American appetites for money and image, where she features more as evidence than as a guest. She has also voiced a character on 'The Simpsons' and appeared in a run of music videos, including Cardi B's "WAP".

Her first scripted part came in January 2026 with 'The Moment', an A24 mockumentary directed by Aidan Zamiri from an idea by Charli XCX, who plays a version of herself in it. Set during the summer of 'Brat', it follows a pop star buried under her own arena tour. Jenner appears as a fictionalised Kylie Jenner, as does Rachel Sennott, with Alexander Skarsgård and Rosanna Arquette alongside them.

It premiered at Sundance on 23 January and reached American cinemas a week later. Reviews were mixed, with several critics calling the satire toothless, and it took 5.2 million dollars against a four million budget.

The part that actually works

The business is the real career. She launched the Kylie Lip Kit in November 2015, a liner and a lipstick that sold out almost immediately, and rebuilt it as Kylie Cosmetics in 2016. Kylie Skin followed in 2019, then a swimwear line, a clothing label called Khy and a canned cocktail brand named Sprinter, the last two both in 2024.

In November 2019 she sold 51 per cent of Kylie Cosmetics to Coty for 600 million dollars, a deal that valued the company at roughly 1.2 billion.

Eight months before that, in March 2019, Forbes had put her on its cover as the youngest self made billionaire in history, at twenty one. The label did not survive long. In May 2020 the magazine reversed itself, arguing that once Coty's filings became public the revenue figures it had been given looked inflated, and recalculated her worth at around 900 million. Jenner replied that the piece was built on inaccurate statements and unproven assumptions.

Family, filmed

She was with the rapper Travis Scott from 2017 until early 2023, with a split in 2019 and a reconciliation during lockdown. They have two children, Stormi, born on 1 February 2018, and a son born on 2 February 2022.

The second one came with an unusual detour. They announced his name as Wolf, then said weeks later that it did not suit him, and took a year to settle on Aire before changing it legally in 2023. She has been candid about it, calling the switch the hardest thing she has done and saying that the months after the birth left her unable to think straight.

She has been with Timothée Chalamet since April 2023. They kept it almost entirely private for a long stretch, and he did not discuss it publicly until the Critics Choice Awards in 2026, where he pinned down when it had started. Nearly four years in, neither has suggested a wedding is coming.

She still appears on 'The Kardashians', the show the family moved to Hulu in 2022 once the original ended. Whatever her film career amounts to, and so far it amounts to three titles, it has never been the thing paying for the house.
