1:44
The first documentary about the most famous medieval battle in medieval history on the Iberian Peninsula.
On July 16, 1212, the largest conflict of the Spanish Middle Ages took place. Eight hundred years later, a group of archaeologists have excavated the battlefield to respond to new information in the documentary '1212: The Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa'.
In that year, a crusader army made up of Castilians, Aragonese and Navarrese, but also French, English and Germans, faced the army of the Almohad caliph an-Nasir in the south of Sierra Morena. The Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa, as the battle is known, is considered the most important battle of the Middle Ages in the Iberian Peninsula and is a key event in the history of Spain.
The group of archaeologists and specialists who have begun the archaeological study of the battlefield intend to answer some questions formulated throughout these years in the study of the event: Is everything that has been said about the battle true? What secrets does the terrain hide? And, above all, what can we learn today about events that took place hundreds of years ago and that confronted tens of thousands of people in the south of our country?
