Trailer 'Ashes'
2:50
About those who risked their lives to save the ashes of 2,000 victims of Nazism.
A tribute to those who fought, those who died, and those who dared to give them a voice.
A documentary that brings to the present a disturbing investigation through the past of our history and memory. In Bilbao, Professor Unai Eguía begins to search for what happened to Enric Moner, a Catalan republican deported who disappeared in the upheavals of World War II.
On the other hand, in a village near Gernika, Antón Gandarias delves into his family's past to explore the fate of his uncle Anjel Lekuona. The only information he has is the escape from Francoism of his ancestor, which unfortunately leads him into the hands of the Gestapo.
Two stories with a common dark context, but seemingly parallel until now, intersect when both arrive in Prague and discover something greater than they expected. The story of the janitor of the Strašnice crematorium and his son, who risked their lives to rescue and preserve the ashes of more than two thousand victims of Nazism.
It reconstructs a past often hidden, a story that does not want to be retold. Chapters composed of the Spanish Civil War, exile, and concentration camps. A struggle between horror and human dignity.
