On November 22, 1975, Juan Carlos de Borbón is proclaimed King of Spain. Two days after the death of the dictator Francisco Franco, who had ruled Spain for 40 years. After the victory of Franco in the Spanish Civil War, he became Caudillo of Spain, making the army, the church and the Falange the pillars of his dictatorship. The Franco regime is initially aligned with the European regimes of Hitler and Mussolini, but after the Second World War and the defeat of fascism, it opted for the allies. The NO-DO, the official news program of the regime, projects an ideal image of Spain that covers reality: an isolated, delayed and impoverished country. With the Cold War, the ultra-religious and anti-communist regime finds its two international guarantees in the Vatican and the United States. The sixties, will be the stage of the Francoist splendor, in which the economic development, the boom of tourism and the exodus of the country side to the city transform the country. At the same time, the worker, student activism and the political dissidence grow, but the regime represses all of them harshly. With the murder of Carrero Blanco by ETA, in 1973, the agony of the dictatorship began. The Caudillo dies in bed on November 20, 1975 but the shadow of his dictatorship will extend into the future.
