A Dog's Journey

Married couple Ethan (Dennis Quaid, 'Fortitude') and Hannah (Marg Helgenberger, 'Erin Brockovich') live on a picturesque farm in the Midwest, accompanied by their loyal Great Pyrenees Bernese Mountain Dog, Bailey (voiced by Josh Gad, 'Frozen'), who considers it his canine duty to watch over their granddaughter, CJ (Kathryn Prescott, '24: Legacy'). Bailey passes away, but soon realises that dogs are reincarnated into other canine bodies when he comes back as a beagle, Molly, who finds her way to a young CJ as a means of keeping the promise of loyalty that Bailey made to Ethan.

Bailey continues to die and be reincarnated as various versions of man's best friend, from an African Boerboel Big Dog to a small yappy terrier. With every incarnation, Bailey attempts to return to CJ, supporting her through the disintegration of her relationships with her negligent mother, Gloria (Betty Gilpin, 'Isn't It Romantic?'), and abusive boyfriend, pushing her towards her kind childhood friend, Trent (Henry Lau, 'Double World'), instead.

Directed by Gail Manscuso ('Modern Family') and written by W. Bruce Cameron, Cathryn Michon, Maya Forbes and Wallace Wolodarsky, 'A Dog's Journey' is about the support offered by canine companions during life's darkest moments.
