Plot
'A Nice Indian Boy' is a American romantic comedy directed by Roshan Sethi. It is based on the play of the same name written by Madhuri Shekar with a screenplay adapted by Eric Randall. The film stars Sethi's partner, actor Karan Soni, alongside Jonathan Groff. The movie is produced by Justin Baldoni's Wayfarer Studios and premieres in the United States on April 4, 2025, after screening at the South by Southwest festival.
Naveen is a young gay Indian living with his traditional Indian family in a city in the United States. Only partially out of the closet, on the day of his sister's wedding, all eyes are on him as the next one. Six years later, Naveen is now a doctor and still single. One day, while praying in an Indian temple, he meets Jay, a white young man whom he encounters again at work.
Jay was adopted by two Indian parents, so he is fully immersed in the culture and language. The attraction between Jay and Naveen is instant, and they gradually get to know each other until they decide to live together. The major taboo of the relationship remains meeting Jay's parents and overcoming the traditional and religious barriers that are still very strong in much of society today.
The cast of the film also includes Sunita Mani, Zarna Garg, Haris Patel, and Peter S. Kim. 'A Nice Indian Boy' receives great reviews after its premiere and wins the audience award at the Trasveer Film Festival and the Sherzum award at the Hamptons Film Festival.
