When Lena arrives at the lighthouse, there is a skeleton against the wall, a video camera which she switched on to see her husband light up a white phosphorus grenade. The white phosphorus would have melted all the bones.

'Annihilation' is based on the first best-seller book in the sci-fi Southern Reach trilogy of Jeff VanderMeer.
