Boy Erased's reviews
Media reviews
Indiewire
A powerfully conflicted portrait of the relationship between love and hate. [...] 'Boy Erased' regards everyone with such raw empathy that even its most difficult moments are fraught with the possibility of forgiveness
Cinemanía
The same versatility that Joel Edgerton shows in front of the camera seems to have it behind too. [...] He confirms himself as a director with great sensibility and talent directing actors. [...] Nobody doubts of the power of the three protagonists.
Variety
Edgerton shows an admirable sense of restraint [...] The film might have been stronger if it had given some of the other teens more of a chance to express their views. [...] Crowe and Kidman have seldom been better in their supporting roles.
The Playlist
Edgerton can't entirely thread the overall narrative through Jared?s conversion experience. [...] The film is at its best when it focuses on the relationship between Jared and Nancy. Hedges is terrific overall, but Kidman often carries the movie in these sequences
The Guardian
Jared is a frustratingly underdeveloped shadow of a character. The film never successfully conveys the torment and loneliness he feels and as a depiction of a gay teen, it?s too far removed and lacking in specificity to make an impact. It?s a cold study rather than a humane movie, the eventual emotional confrontations carrying little weight.
