Plot

After marrying the charming and seductive Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston), young Edith (Mia Wasikowska) finds herself swept away to his remote gothic mansion in the English hills. Also living there is Lady Lucille (Jessica Chastain), Thomas' alluring sister and protector of her family's dark secrets. Able to communicate with the dead, Edith tries to decipher the mystery behind the ghostly visions that haunt her new home. As she comes closer to the truth, Edith may learn that true monsters are made of flesh and blood.

Guillermo del Toro writes and directs this terrifying film in which also appear Charlie Hunnam, Doug Jones, Burn Gorman, Leslie Hope, Sofia Wells, Javier Botet and Jim Beaver.

Guillermo del Toro wrote 11 or 12 versions of the film before settling on the final draft. He was coming up with new scenes during production.

Second film for Tom Hiddleston and Mia Wasikowska to work on together. The first being Sólo los amantes sobreviven (2013).

Charlie Hunnam and Tom Hiddleston had both auditioned for the role of Thor prior to working together in this film. Hiddleston had ended up playing Loki in the Marvel movies.
