Synopsis

'England is Mine' is a film full of memories that The Smiths immortalized. From social gatherings in cemeteries to the most horrendous clubs of the night scene passing through the boring domestic life that everyone hides. The film talks about the life of the very well known Steven Patrick Morrissey, from his childhood in Manchester to becoming the most famous vocalist on the rock scene. The images of a contemplative Morrissey, as is expected from an indie, lead us to the madness of the musical world that he entered when he meet Johnny Marr. A phrase of the song 'Still Ill' from the English band is the tittle of the film directed by Mark Gill and starring young promises like Jack Lowden, Jessica Brown Findlay, Laurie Kynaston.

  • 6.0 The TelegraphTim Robey It takes a special kind of biopic to reduce its subject to the least imaginably interesting version of itself. Read
  • 6.0 The GuardianPeter Bradshaw It?s decently and honestly acted by Jack Lowden, who keeps the film alive, but it somehow winds up being a story about always following your dream and never giving up. Read
  • 4.0 VarietyOwen Gleiberman 'England Is Mine' just feels like a stopgap movie made by people who couldn?t afford to get the rights to the Smiths? catalogue. The poster calls it a meditation ?on becoming Morrissey,? but it… Read
