Plot
'Eternity' is a fantasy romantic comedy directed by David Freyne, who also co-writes the script alongside Pat Cunnane. It stars Miles Teller, Elizabeth Olsen, and Callum Turner. The film, a production of A24, premieres at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and in theaters in the United States on November 14, 2025.
After death, humans arrive at a place called the "Union," a sort of limbo where souls can choose where and with whom to spend the rest of their eternity. After passing away, Larry Cutler wakes up as a younger version of himself. His coordinator informs him that he only has one week to make a final decision.
When his wife Joan arrives at the Union shortly after, she discovers that her first husband, Luke - who died young in a war - has been waiting for her for decades. Now Joan must make the most difficult decision of her non-life: to spend eternity with Larry, the man with whom she has shared many life stages over the years, or with Luke, the love she lost and never forgot. An exploration of how choices affect our lives and the difficult decisions that love also requires.
The cast of 'Eternity' is completed by the coordinators of the protagonists' afterlife, played by John Early, Olga Merediz, and Da'Vine Joy Randolph. Filmed in Vancouver, the film has received great reviews after its screening in Toronto.
