Plot
'How to Make a Killing' is a French-British black comedy written and directed by John Patton Ford. It is based on the 1949 British film 'Kind Hearts and Coronets' and stars actor Glenn Powell. It premieres in the United States on February 20, 2026 to mixed reviews.
The protagonist is Becket Redfellow, a middle-class worker who discovers he belongs to a multi-millionaire family that disinherited him at birth. Now, deprived of a multi-million dollar inheritance, Becket has a single obsession: to reclaim what he believes is his. And, as he discovers that what separates him from that fortune is a group of eccentric relatives, his desires transform into a craving to kill.
So, little by little, he begins plotting the cold-blooded murders of every member of the family, one by one, convinced that each death leaves him one step closer to the long-awaited inheritance. However, as the deaths pile up, Becket's plan becomes increasingly difficult to control, as ambition and family secrets begin to surface at the same rate as the corpses.
Conceived as a satire on social classes, the cast of 'How to Make a Killing' is rounded out by Margaret Qualley, Jessica Henwick, Bill Camp, Zach Woods, Topher Grace, and Ed Harris, among others. The film has been more than a decade in development, with several cast, crew, and director changes, and, according to Ford, it had to spend over 300 days in editing to take shape. The result, despite everything, was rather mediocre according to the critics.
