Kaporito: El guardián de la montaña

Directed by Viveca Baíz

Synopsis

First feature film by Venezuelan professor Viveca Baíz, who has dedicated her life to cultural promotion through teaching and developing the artistic expression of children's animation, as well as drawing and other arts. 80-minutes animated feature film that has had a decade-long production process, being an independently financed project, having only 80 workers for the film. Awarded the prize for the best soundtrack at the Venezuela Film Festival.

Kaporito is a small spectacled bear, one of the few bears native to South America. The little bear runs away from evil poachers, who killed his parents. Frightened, Kaporito flees to his burrow, located in the high mountains of the Andean Cordillera. There, he makes friends with some inhabitants of the peasant settlement, where he meets Caribay, a nice and lively indigenous little girl, who knows how to see that the bear has a good heart despite its large size. The little girl helps Kaporito to become the guardian of the mountain, in order to preserve the lives of other defenseless animals and nature.

An animation production that combines traditional hand-drawn animation with characters created by 3D CGI animation. The production team configured a total of 103 characters that were made in a traditional way and then digitized, just as the film has 1,323 backgrounds for the locations. 'Kaporito: The Guardian of the Mountain' has a total of 115,200 frames, in addition to being one of the first Venezuelan animation productions to be a musical, as it has seven original songs.

Directed by Viveca Baíz, who writes the script together with Donald Myerston and Aquiles Ascencion. Baíz and Myerston also produce the feature film, which is a production of Zootropo Producciones and ICAIC.
