Plot
'Kraken: The Black Book of Hours' is a Spanish drama film directed by Manuel Sanabria and Joaquín Llamas. It is based on the eponymous book by Eva García Saénz de Urtruri from the year 2022. The screenplay adaptation is credited to Rocío Martínez Llano and Juan Carlos Cueto. The film, produced by Isla Audiovisual and Zebra, premieres in theaters on April 24, 2026.
We are set in Vitoria in the year 2022, where we follow the adventures of Unai López de Ayala, alias Kraken, when he receives a surprising call. He has one week to find the legendary Black Book of Hours, a unique collector's item in the world, or his mother will die. The surprise is that, in theory, his mother has been dead for decades.
Thus, Kraken finds himself involved in a race against time investigation with the help of Esti. What initially seemed like a simple search transforms into the exploration of a murky universe with an unsettling atmosphere that mixes a love for culture with ordinary crime. To make matters worse, the news about his mother makes Kraken question that he has been living a series of lies on which his life has been built, which will become evident as the investigation progresses.
'Kraken: The Black Book of Hours' features Alejo Sauras in the role of Kraken, with Maggie Civantos as his assistant Esti. The cast also includes Natalia Rodríguez, Martin Urrutia, Aitziber Luma, Fernando Soto, and Natalia Millán. The film is co-produced by RTVE.
