La terra negra

María returns to the town's industrial mill, a family business she abandoned years ago after a dispute that left her isolated, emotionally and socially exiled. Now she works alongside her brother Ángel, the owner of the mill, in a strict and silent routine that barely allows her to stay afloat. In the town, her return does not go unnoticed: old acquaintances, especially Ángel's friends, watch her with a mix of morbid curiosity and disdain, reveling in what they consider the failure of her life. But María, hardened by time and solitude, seeks neither reconciliation nor compassion. Just to survive.

The arrival of Miquel, a young ex-convict whom Ángel hires to work at the mill, disrupts the fragile balance of this closed and harsh world. His presence is unsettling: there is something about him that disorients, an almost mystical intensity, a disturbing calm that seems to stir the conscience of those around him. Despite the general distrust —and the fear his prison past evokes—, María finds in Miquel an unexpected presence, a murky mirror in which she sees herself reflected, and little by little, a silent admiration grows between them, made of gestures, glances, and shared silences.

As the atmosphere in the mill becomes increasingly tense, jealousy, suspicion, and the need for redemption intertwine. The past weighs on everyone, but on some more than others. In that place dominated by the noise of machines and the echoes of social judgment, María and Miquel will have to confront not only the rejection of their surroundings but also their own ghosts.
