Plot
''Love Me Tender'' is a film directed by Anna Cazenave Cambet and starring Vicky Krieps that addresses the clash between motherhood, sexual identity, and social structures.
The story follows Clémence, a separated woman trying to rebuild her life after leaving her marriage and starting a relationship with another woman. What initially seems like an act of honesty and personal liberation soon triggers a devastating conflict when her ex-husband decides to take legal action to revoke her custody of their child.
Clémence's life spirals into a whirlwind of legal proceedings, evaluations, and restrictions that force her to constantly prove her worth as a mother. Her sexual orientation becomes the axis of a system that judges and questions her, transforming her experience into an unequal struggle where the intimate becomes political. Separated from her child and reduced to supervised visits, the protagonist tries to maintain the emotional bond while watching her role in the child's life gradually fade away.
Clémence continues to explore her identity and her relationships with other women, trying to build a life consistent with who she really is. However, this process of personal affirmation constantly clashes with social norms, prejudices, and institutional pressure that push her towards guilt and renunciation. The film thus paints a raw portrait of a woman caught between the desire to be free and the need to continue being a mother.
''Love Me Tender'' reflects on the limits of individual freedom when family, justice, and unwritten norms that still condition emotional diversity come into play. It thus becomes a story about resistance, identity, and conflicting love, where every decision entails a loss, and every advance, an open wound.
