That superficiality, that dedication to the crash of the sexual comical effect with loose threads (the overwhelmingly funny rehearsal of the different homoerotic practices), is what gives the movie its depth and cabaret-like humor.

The problem of Boudali's and Lacheau's new film is that its concept of homosexuality seems stuck in 1978, when Arévalo triumphed with his queers jokes. The film is the homo opposite of the heterosexual world of their previous 'Alibi.com'.
Cine Premiere
The speech of accepting other which 'Marry Me, Dude' ends with is poor, as poor as the story development and the comedy used by the actor and filmmaker, and it ends up succumbing to the sexism and homophoby present in the jokes. Lacheau is probably the better one not only because of his character but because of the commitment he shows with his role.
Rolling Stone
'Marry Me, Dude' is a dull, silly and unbelievable film, besides being a bad remedy for some of the most pathetic, vulgar and eschatological American comedies of the 1980s and 1990s, which were far from today's comedies produced in France. Its retrograde vision of gay life is also surprising, going beyond the barrier of offensive.
El Mundo
Easy jokes, inconsistent misunderstandings, vandeville situations and popular actors in their country. All of this is in this typically French comedy determined to not offend any sensitivity with its caricaturesque characters.
The Hollywood Reporter
What is the source of most of the humor thus isn?t how queer men supposedly look or act but rather how oblivious straight men have no clue about the finally very similar lives and ways of their gay fellow men. It is true the characters of Stan and Daoud could have been developed more to emphasize this point or perhaps a stereotype-free gay character could have been added for purely didactic purposes. But mainstream comedies in general and the French variety in particular often use clichés as comedic shorthand, and this film is no different.
