Plot
'Re-creation' is a courtroom thriller written and directed by Jim Sheridan and David Merriman. The film is based on real events, specifically the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier, a television producer who was found dead in 1996. The main suspect in the crime, journalist Eoin Bailey, was never formally imprisoned for the crime.
The film, which follows the structure of the play "Twelve Angry Men," focuses on the recreation of the trial with a jury years after the crime, attempting to reach a unanimous verdict that finally condemns the main suspect. Twelve members from different backgrounds who, through their discussions about the case, invite the viewer to form their own version of the events.
A reflection on emotions, unconscious biases, and the media pressure that we are often subjected to and that ultimately influences our judgment. In the end, it seeks to answer the question, what determines our sense of guilt and innocence?
'Re-creation' also stars Jim Sheridan himself, who plays one of the members of this jury. Vicky Krieps is the other lead, joined by Aidan Gillen and Colm Meaney. After its premiere, debuting at the Tribeca Festival in June 2025, the film generally receives positive reviews.
