Roofman

'Roofman' is a U.S. comedy co-written and directed by Derek Cianfrance. The script is also credited to Kirt Gunn. The film, a production of High Frequency, premieres in the United States on October 10, 2025, after screening at the Toronto International Film Festival, and is based on the true story of thief Jeffrey Manchester.

Manchester was a former reservist in the United States Navy who, after leaving the military, begins working at a McDonald's. Over time, he goes from working at them to robbing them, using a curious modus operandi: he sneaks into each restaurant at night through the roof and hides in the bathroom waiting for the employees to arrive. Then, he surprises them and forces the workers into the walk-in freezer while he empties the cash registers.

With this technique, it is estimated that Roofman was able to rob up to 60 burger joints, with the peculiarity that he always showed kindness to the employees he was robbing. After being imprisoned, he manages to escape from jail and ends up hiding in a Toys 'R' Us. There, he lives between the walls of the supermarket, hiding during the day and living at night, primarily feeding on children's food. After a while, he decides to devise a plan to rob the toy store...

The character of Manchester is played in the film by Channing Tatum, who shares the cast with Kirsten Dunst, Ben Mendelsohn, Peter Dinklage, Uzo Aduba, Juno Temple, Emory Cohen, and LaKeith Stanfield, among others. Received with generally positive reviews, 'Roofman' was filmed in North Carolina.
