Scarred Hearts

Inspired by the literature and biography of Max Blecher, the film focuses on the extreme experiences of Emanuel, a twenty-year-old who suffers from bone tuberculosis. The young man enters a sanatorium on the coast of the Black Sea, where he will spend a lot of time casting on a stretcher. In love with another patient, the film recounts his attempts and those of his fellow patients to live life to the fullest. As their bodies wither slowly, their minds refuse to yield. The script, written by the director himself, situates the facts in 1937, addressing aspects of both the life of the sanatorium and the external reality. The routine of a Romania increasingly threatened by the extremism of the right.
