Shortcomings

'Shortcomings' is an Amercian comedy-drama film with script from Adrian Tomine based on his own comics. It is the debut of actor Randall Park as director. The film is a production of Topic Studios which debuted at Sundance Film Festival 2023, where Sony Pictures Classics bought the distributions rights. It premiered in cinemas in the US on august 44h, 2023.

The film follows a couple of asians living in California. He is Ben, wants to be a filmmaker, but things aren't going as planned for now. He has a girlfriend, Miko, but spends more time with his lesbian friend Alice, a grad student which also doesn't know how to be single for a long time.

Whe Miko leaves for New York on an internship, the couple decides to split and explore new relationships. Ben tries to follow his dream/obsession: blonde women. However, when Alice decides to move to New York too, the three end up living near each other, although in a very different city.

'Shotcomings' stars Justin H. Min as Ben, Sherry Cola as Alice and Ally Maki is Miko. The casts also includes Debby Ryan, Tavi Gevinson, Sonoya Mizuno, Jacob Batalon and Timothy Simons. The movie has gotten mostly positive reviews, prasing both Randall Park in his directorial debut, as Min in his first big movie role.
