So Far Away

Sergio, played by Mario Casas, travels to Utrecht with his family to attend a sporting event where his favorite team plays, RCD Espanyol de Barcelona. However, before returning to Barcelona, he suffers a panic attack that paralyzes him. Unable to explain what's happening, he makes a radical decision and pretends to lose his documents with one purpose: to stay in the Netherlands, cut all ties with his previous life, and start a new life. Without notifying anyone, he simply disappears far way.

From that moment on, Sergio must face a foreign city with no money, no home, no friends, and no knowledge of the language. What starts as an escape turns into a journey of self-discovery filled with obstacles and lessons. Each day becomes a physical and emotional challenge that forces him to reassess his life. In his isolation, Sergio meets people who also live on the margins of society, with whom he begins to rebuild his identity and understand himself better. A travel where Sergio will find himself.

'So far way', directed by Gerard Oms, is a deep reflection on personal disconnection, existential crisis, and the value of getting lost to find oneself. The filmmaker debuts with a very personal story, inspired by his own experience in 2008 in the Netherlands.
