The farm
Director explains that the farm in the movie was in a very bad state when they found it, and they had to restore it. In the words of Xavier Beauvois, the owner "thought we were going to make it «in cardboard» but designer Yann Me?gard said it's usually cheaper to restore it «for real»."
Based upon a novel
'The Guardians' is based upon the 1924 novel of the same name by Ernest Pérochon. Pérochon was a teacher and also soldier during World War II.
Premiere with tragedy
The movie starring Nathalie Baye and her real life daughter Laura Smet was released the very same day Johnny Halliday died. He was the ex husband of the first and the father of the second.
