The Visit and A Secret Garden

What we know about the mysterious Isabel Cantó, an artist now forgotten, is very little. But from time to time some visitors come to her house. Through them and through the voice of Antonio López, the last painter of his generation who remembers her, a polyhedral film is born. This film is a portrait in a cinematographic way of Isabel Cantó, as the footage progresses, she transforms. It is also a film about memory, oblivion, the creative process, art and the meaning of what it means to be a woman and an artist. It is, ultimately, a film about distance and gaze.

The director, Irene M. Borrego, explains that the intention is not to see an intellectual film, but a film made with the heart and the guts. The topics and feelings that we will see are related to the experiences, doubts and fears of very different people. Of the people who sometimes look for light through the shadows.

'The Visit and A Secret Garden' does not pursue the objective of having a captivating aesthetic, on the other way, the film speaks through a certain sobriety, without artifice. The strength of the film does not come from its amazing photographic and sound properties, it lies in the 'complex simplicity' it seeks and how it tries to get to the heart of things.
