'Train Dreams' trivia and fun facts
Star Wars
Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones have both appeared in the Star Wars universe. Edgerton played a younger Owen Lars in Star Wars: Episode II-Attack of the Clones (2002), Star Wars: Episode III-Revenge of the Sith (2005), and the streaming series Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022). Jones played Jyn Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016).
Jules et Jim
Clint Bentley has cited Jules y Jim (1962) and Y tu mamá también (2001) as key influences on the film's use of third-person narration.
Oscar
The film cast includes three Oscar nominees: Felicity Jones, William H. Macy and Kerry Condon.
Adolpho Veloso
Although Bentley and cinematographer Adolpho Veloso considered shooting on film, the production's 29-day schedule made it impractical; as a result, it was shot digitally.
Will Patton
Will Patton provided the voiceover for the film. He had also previously narrated the audiobook of Denis Johnson's novella.
The Brutalist
Both Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones were attached to "The Brutalist" (2024), at different stages of development. Joel Edgerton and Marion Cotillard were supposed to play Lázló and Erzsèbet Tóth in 2020, but due to scheduling delays (including the pandemic), the two dropped out and Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones played their respective characters.
Nick Cave
The Nick Cave song "Train Dreams", recorded for the film, was not included in the version shown at the Sundance Film Festival; it was added in subsequent releases.
