Turning Red

Domee Shi, director of the applauded Pixar short film 'Bao', presents her first feature film for the animation studio: 'Turning Red'. The star of the film is a young girl who transforms into a giant red panda every time she gets excited. Mei lives with her parents in Toronto, and every afternoon after class she helps her mother at their ancestors temple, which is also a gathering place for the people in their neighborhood. Mei has always felt very close to the mother, but with puberty something is starting to change. Mei thinks about boys more and more, she wants to hang out with her friends more than with her mother, and her biggest desire is to go to the 4*Town, her favourite boyband, concert, something her mother doesn't understand and won't allow. Mei's mood is a whirlwind, but the worst thing about it is that every time that she gets mad or emotional she becomes a giant red panda, and the only way to go back to normal is if she gets to calm herself. But being a teenager, is very easy to say. Mei and her mother will have to face the changes that come with puberty in a movie where Pixar mixes its traditional animated style with Asian animation. 'Turning Red' will debut directly in Disney+.
