Plot

A quiet night in the peaceful town of Elmswood transforms into an inexplicable nightmare when all the second-year students of the local high school disappear without a trace… except for one. At exactly 2:37 a.m., 24 teenagers vanish simultaneously from their homes, with no signs of violence, witnesses, or obvious clues. This terrible event leads down an uncertain path where the nerves and anguish of the population become increasingly palpable.

The only one left is a lonely young man who claims to have heard or seen nothing unusual. As the police initiate a desperate search and the media turns the case into a national phenomenon, suspicions inevitably fall on the teacher. However, as the days pass and disturbing details emerge—stopped clocks, cryptic messages written on mirrors, and strange drawings found under the beds of the missing—some begin to wonder if they are facing something beyond comprehension.

As the tension in the town grows and the teacher tries to clear her name, she begins to receive fragments of memories that do not belong to her and visions of a place that should not exist. Soon, she will understand that the truth could not only endanger her sanity but also open a door that should never have been touched.

Trivia

Netflix

Netflix was ready to pay more money upfront than New Line, but an assured theatrical release and New Line's track record with horror were the better selling points.

Magnolia

Weapons script is said to be tonally in the vein of Magnolia (1999) from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson. Magnolia and, reportedly Weapons as well, feature multiple story threads that are interrelated to one another.

Rooney Mara and Elizabeth Olsen

Rooney Mara and Elizabeth Olsen were offered the lead role but both turned it down. Pedro Pascal and Renate Reinsve were then cast but ultimately had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Pascal dropped out to star in Los 4 fantásticos: primeros pasos (2025), which Julia Garner also starred in.
