In fact, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the film, some famous scenes from the movie were recreated. Of course, as expected, the famous selfie of the two protagonists was included in the tribute. It is safe to say that the selfie has took everyone by storm in recent years whether you capture the moment by yourself or through the use of a selfie stick in a big group. The film industry is no different and the selfie has made many appearances on the big screen, as everywhere we look these days we struggle to escape this popular method of taking a photo.

So, we have decided to pay tribute to the selfie by showing you 10 cinematic selfies from films in recent years. Many have been used to differing effects, ranging from comedic effect in the likes of 'Zoolander 2' to more of a narcissistic manner in 'The Bling Ring'. Can you remember any other films that have featured selfies?

1 'Thelma & Louise'

Before the term selfie was even created, both Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis were already experts at taking them. 'Thelma and Louise' has become a classic when it comes to exploring and giving voice to active and complex female characters thanks to the themes touched on by the brilliant Ridley Scott. And of course it has provided us with what must be the first cinematic selfie. Lovely.

2 'One Hour Photo'

It is difficult to forget the intriguing photo technician called Sy, who was played by the late Robin Williams in the thriller 'One Hour Photo'. In arguably his most disturbing role of his career, Williams' character is a very lonely man who develops an unhealthy obsession with a suburban family. Nevertheless, he takes a good selfie.

3 'The Bling Ring'

The characters in 'The Bling Ring' will not fail to fascinate you. In a film about teenagers who are obsessed by the world of celebrities, Nicki (Emma Watson) and her friends find their joy through stealing luxury items belonging to celebrities. In this example, the numerous selfies taken in the film are shared on social media which illustrates the deep obsession and desire for popularity of these individuals.

4 'Ghostbusters'

In the 2016 version of 'Ghostbusters', director Paul Feig attempts to use fresh and modern humour and one example is through the use of a selfie stick. A concert goer whacks out the selfie stick in an attempt to take a picture as a ghost perches on Leslie Jones' shoulder. This fresh type of humour didn't go down too well and the film hasn't been that well received.

5 '3-Iron'

Tae-suk (Jae Hee) appears in '3-Iron' as a type of misunderstood and understated ghost who escapes pre-established social conventions. Accustomed to hiding, the young drifter has developed a strange ritual of sneaking into others houses with the aim of fixing faults and taking pictures with objects. However, his photographs are far from the type of selfies people take these days. His are images of sadness, depression, isolation and a deep rejection to a world that it is aggressive and violent. One photograph, shown above, includes a woman who has been victim of abuse (Lee Seung Yeon) who also is feels the same pain as the young man.

6 'Beautiful Youth'

Very much in line and similar with the likes of Ariana Grande who tweeted after being attacked in the film 'Scream Queens', Justin Bieber follows suit by doing something similar in his appearance in 'Zoolander 2'. The Canadian singer, just before he is about to die in the film, whips out his phone to capture the moment taking one last photo before uploading it to Instagram.

8 'Home'

Not even animated films can escape the selfie craze these days. In this case, both Tip and Oh in 'Home' decide to take a quick snap of themselves to show their strong bond. A happy moment that we get to enjoy whilst listening to the films soundtrack 'Cannonball' by Kiesza.

Films like 'The Fifth Element' aren't short of interesting trivia. From the Iluminati symbolism to the creation of its own language for the film created by director Luc Besson. However, it is probable that people don't know that the 1997 film included one of the firms selfie references. As seen above, it occurs when Ruby Rhod (Chris Tucker) whips out a camera in front of Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis).
